Your symptoms are not punishment—they’re sacred messages.
Does every flair feel like a betrayal? Does every painful twinge, every bout of fatigue or brain fog become another reason to feel defeated? Here’s the truth I wish someone had told me earlier:
Your symptoms aren’t your enemies. They’re your body trying to communicate.
And when we learn to listen with compassion, healing begins.
A New Practice: Bless the Symptom
I call this healing habit “Bless the Symptom.” It’s a tool to shift from fear and frustration to partnership with your body. Instead of waging war on your symptoms, you begin to thank them—not because they’re fun or easy, but because they carry valuable information about what needs to change.
Blessing the symptom doesn’t mean giving up. It means tuning in.
Reframing Symptoms with Gratitude
Here are a few real-life examples I’ve used (and encourage you to try):
Diarrhea → “Thank you for showing me I need to slow down.”
Joint Pain → “Thank you for showing me inflammation I can address.”
Brain Fog → “Thank you for reminding me to rest my mind and detox my thoughts.”
Skin Rash → “Thank you for helping me eliminate what no longer serves me.”
Insomnia → “Thank you for pointing to unresolved tension or unmet needs.”
Every symptom is like a knock at the door. Will you answer it with frustration… or curiosity?
Write down 3 symptoms you’ve been experiencing recently.
For each one, write a sentence of gratitude or insight—what message might this symptom hold for you?
Make this a continual practice, noticing symptoms, and take time to bless and think of the insight it is showing you.
You might feel resistance at first. That’s normal. Keep going. You are rewiring decades of reaction.
Affirmation Practice
Say this aloud—or whisper it quietly to your body:
“I bless my symptoms.
I honor my body.
I listen with grace.”
Let the answers come gently. Don’t rush them. Just listen.
Jot down 3 things you’re grateful for.
Today I am grateful for…
I’d love to hear your reflection. You can post publicly or anonymously.
What’s one symptom you chose to bless instead of resent today?
