The First 3 Healing Habits That Changed My Life (and Could Change Yours Too)

May 13, 20254 min read

Let’s talk about something heartfelt for a moment.

Healing—deep, lasting, soul-level healing—isn’t something that just happens to us. It’s something we choose. And before you think this is just another feel good story, hear me out. I’m not saying you chose your diagnosis, your pain, or the chaos that came with it. But what you do with it? That part’s yours.

These three healing habits are the foundation that helped me take back control of my life and my health. And if you’re reading this, they can help you too.

1. This Is Your Decision & Responsibility

This is the first—and often the hardest—habit to adopt. Why? Because it means stepping out of the “why me?” mindset and stepping into the “what now?” one.

When I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at 30, in the middle of raising four kids, my first instinct was to hand it all over to the doctors. “Fix me,” I thought. “Tell me what to do.” And while there’s nothing wrong with getting help (we need support!), I wasn't receiving any real hope. It was in that moment when I realized something important:

No one is coming to save me.

That moment changed everything. I decided to stop waiting for a miracle and become the miracle. I started asking myself:

“What can I do today to support my healing?”

It doesn’t mean I did it all perfectly. It means I took responsibility—not blame, but ownership. This is your body. Your life. And your healing. When I began to look at what I might have done to get to the place I was in (how I had not supported a healthy body) I also saw what I could do to help it heal.

2. Know Your Purpose & Why—it’s Your Anchor

Here’s the thing: just deciding to take responsibility isn’t enough. Because let’s be honest—healing is hard work. It’s early mornings, weird smoothies, setting boundaries, and sometimes crying on the kitchen floor because you just want to feel normal again.

That’s where your purpose comes in.

Your “why” is what gets you out of bed when the symptoms flare up. It’s what keeps you from giving up when nothing seems to be working.

For me? My purpose was my kids. I wanted to be the kind of mom who could play with them in the backyard, dance in the kitchen and attend their activities. I wanted them to see that even in pain, I could choose joy. That even in struggle, I could grow stronger.

So, I challenge you:

What is your why?
Who or what are you fighting for?

Write it down. Keep it where you can see it. Let it remind you that you’re not just healing for the sake of getting better. You’re healing for something greater.

3. Harness Your Faith in Your Body

Let’s flip the script here. We’re so used to looking at our bodies as broken, unreliable, even dangerous. But here’s the truth no one told me until I learned it the hard way:

Your body is not your enemy.
It’s your greatest ally.

Even now, even with the diagnosis, even with the flare-ups—it is doing everything it can to keep you alive. That rash? That pain? That fatigue? They’re signals. Messages. Your body is talking to you. Are you listening?

One of the most powerful healing habits I’ve developed is faith in my body’s wisdom. I started treating it like a partner. I began asking:

  • What do you need right now?

  • What are you trying to tell me?

  • How can I support you better?

And when I listened—really listened—I found that my body had always been guiding me toward healing. I just needed to trust it again. When I held it in gratitude and did the work to research what I could do to help, I found a grace I did not know was missing.

Here’s the truth:
You are more powerful than you’ve been led to believe. Healing doesn’t start with the perfect diet, supplement, or protocol. It starts with a decision. A purpose. And a deep trust in your body’s ability to heal.

So, what would happen if you started living like your healing is possible?

Because it is.

And it starts now—with you.
